About The Position

This position requires knowledge of standard athletic equipment, supplies, and materials used in competitive sports, especially football, baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, wrestling, and track; proper methods of cleaning and storing athletic equipment; first aid methods, techniques, and standards; safety standards as applied to the operation and conditioning of athletic equipment. The duties of this position include receiving, issuing, maintaining, storing, and inventorying athletic equipment and supplies used in competitive athletic/sports programs; providing first aid and emergency care as assigned; and performing some custodial duties in the gymnasium area as assigned. Employees in this class receive general supervision from a school site administrator or his/her designate within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class exercises responsibility for ensuring the proper safety and accounting of athletic/sports equipment and for providing treatment of minor athletic injuries requiring the application of standard first aid procedures, techniques, and injury prevention methods.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of proper methods of cleaning and storing athletic equipment
  • Knowledge of first aid methods, techniques, and standards
  • Knowledge of safety standards as applied to the operation and conditioning of athletic equipment
  • Skill to maintain and make repairs to athletic clothing and equipment
  • Skill to learn to tape athletes and perform first aid
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
  • Ability to learn to operate standard athletic equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate records and files including inventory records
  • Ability to perform arithmetical calculations accurately
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written forms
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
  • One year of experience in work connected with a sports program or in handling athletic equipment
  • Possession of or skill to obtain KHSD Coaching Certification (i.e. Concussion Awareness, CPR, AED, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Training); or valid First Aid Certificate as issued by the American Red Cross
  • Ability to receive, store, and inventory athletic equipment and supplies for competitive athletic/sports programs
  • Ability to issue and inspect athletic equipment for proper operation and compliance to established safety standards
  • Ability to issue lockers, clothing, protective pads, shoes, balls, bats, rackets, and other game equipment
  • Ability to stencil and mark equipment for inventory purposes
  • Ability to maintain and account for all athletic equipment and supplies, establish appropriate inventory records and files as needed
  • Ability to inspect clothing, uniforms, and equipment for needed repairs
  • Ability to make minor repairs and patches clothing/equipment and arrange for major repairs, arrange for minor repairs with outside re-conditioners
  • Ability to clean and sanitize athletic clothing, uniforms, etc.
  • Ability to maintain record of lockers and equipment issued to students
  • Ability to attend athletic events/programs
  • Ability to administer first aid for minor athletic injuries and refer major injuries to team physician
  • Ability to tape athletes for sporting events to prevent or protect injuries
  • Ability to transport injured athletes to medical facilities as needed
  • Ability to gather, load, and assure that proper athletic equipment and first aid supplies are present at athletic/sporting events
  • Ability to set up gymnasium for athletic and other events
  • Ability to perform custodial duties in the clean-up and maintenance of the gymnasium
  • Ability to confer with Athletic Director regarding equipment needs, purchases, etc.
  • A pre-employment medical assessment and a criminal history check will be required of successful candidate prior to employment
  • Successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid Class "C" California Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and make repairs to athletic clothing and equipment
  • Tape athletes and perform first aid
  • Operate standard athletic equipment
  • Establish and maintain appropriate records and files including inventory records
  • Receive, store, and inventory athletic equipment and supplies for competitive athletic/sports programs
  • Issue and inspect athletic equipment for proper operation and compliance to established safety standards
