About The Position

The Athletic Director will assist in providing a safe and effective school environment by supervising student activities, scheduling school events, and supporting the staff of the school. This role involves directing and supervising the athletic program in both high school and middle school, managing budgets, scheduling contests and practices, and ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and policies. The Athletic Director will also be responsible for staff selection, evaluation, facility preparation, publicity, and accident reporting. Additionally, the role requires providing community leadership, serving as a positive role model, and supervising coaches and advisors to ensure adherence to ethical standards and effective program operation.

Requirements

  • High school athletic/activity director experience

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise the athletic program in the high school and middle school.
  • Attend state/conference meetings and relevant professional meetings.
  • Attend meetings concerning district activities and athletics, prioritized by the school principal.
  • Prepare and monitor an annual budget for the activities and athletic programs.
  • Assume responsibility for the purchase, care, maintenance, and inventory of activity and athletic equipment.
  • Schedule all high school and middle school athletic contests and activities.
  • Schedule all athletic practice sessions and activity meeting dates.
  • Enforce all rules and policies governing athletic contests, practices, and activities by the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).
  • Schedule all transportation requests for athletic contests, practices, and activities and conform to District and school transportation policies.
  • Train all coaches and advisors in pertinent rules, regulations, and policies yearly.
  • Interpret the specific applications of rules and regulations.
  • Assist in the selection of athletic and activity staff.
  • Evaluate high school and middle school coaches and advisors and submit recommendations to the principal at the conclusion of each season.
  • Direct custodial and maintenance staff in preparation and upkeep of all fields and the gym for athletic contests and activities.
  • Provide athletic and activity publicity to the media.
  • Contact visiting schools and relay all information relative to time, dressing facilities, bus parking, officials, and other pertinent information necessary for competition and activities.
  • Be the official or designate the representative at all athletic contests and activities.
  • Arrange for timers, judges, announcers, and score keepers at all athletic events and activities.
  • Provide for dressing rooms for officials and visiting teams.
  • Provide for all supplies and equipment needed for any athletic contests and activities.
  • Be responsible for all accident and injury reports and ensure they are properly completed and submitted through the proper channels.
  • Coordinate the use of all facilities and events in cooperation with district personnel.
  • Ensure all student-athletes have a physical examination on file before participation.
  • Be responsible for determining student eligibility and maintaining eligibility rules as per the parent/student and athletic handbooks.
  • Meet regularly with the entire coaching staff and advisors to ensure programs are operating smoothly.
  • Arrange for proper supervision of all students at home and away athletic and activity events.
  • Comply with all Board policies, administrative regulations, and District procedures, as well as all state, federal, and local laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
  • Provide community leadership in developing interscholastic athletics and activities and character-building programs.
  • Give complete support and cooperation to game officials.
  • Be available for associated student body meetings and clubs/organization meetings as the athletic/activity director.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, parents, fans, and community members.
  • Maintain professionalism with parents and the community at all times.
  • Require coaches and advisors to govern themselves rigorously in accordance with the Arizona educator code of ethics and as positive role models for students.
  • Direct the coaching staff to give diligent attention to each athlete with regard to physical condition before, during, and after every contest.
  • Require coaches and advisors to master and demonstrate principles of excellence in coaching, advising, and providing positive role models to students.
  • Serve as liaison between staff members of the athletic and activities departments, principal of the school, and the community.
  • Work in cooperation with the superintendent, principal, and student council on athletic events and high school activities.
  • Supervise coaches and ensure their compliance with their job descriptions.
