About The Position

The Athletic Director is responsible for overseeing all co-curricular activities within the school, including recruiting, hiring, and supervising coaches and sponsors. This role ensures that all activities align with district policies and liability guidelines, monitors student eligibility, and collaborates with other directors to plan and schedule events. The Athletic Director also serves as a resource for staff, manages equipment and facilities, and handles conflict resolution among stakeholders. Communication with families, staff, and students regarding activities is a key component, as is maintaining the school's website for clubs and athletics.

Requirements

  • Building staff member or district staff member
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in education or equivalent
  • Experience as a teacher and coach
  • Ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR, Blood borne Pathogens, and Concussion Training
  • Proficiency in the usage of internet software and email, including the Google platform.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Add, subtract, and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, orient/train, supervise and evaluate coaches and sponsors for all co-curricular activities.
  • Ensure sponsors and coaches understanding of the philosophy and policies and procedures of the middle school co-curricular program.
  • Hold meetings with stakeholder groups before and/or during each season to share relevant information, such as sportsmanship and player/parent expectations.
  • Ensure that all activities align with District liability guidelines.
  • Maintain First Aid/CPR and Concussion Training records for all coaches and sponsors.
  • Monitor student eligibility.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with all stakeholder groups within a multicultural, socio-economically diverse setting.
  • Exhibit strong customer service skills.
  • Maintain accurate records for all personnel matters and purchases.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of the personnel action forms (PAFs) and hourly time sheets for all sponsors, coaches, other supervisors, timekeepers, etc.
  • Regularly collaborate with other Co-curricular Directors to plan, develop and schedule events, games and transportation.
  • Evaluate Athletic programs on an annual basis.
  • Make recommendations for co-curricular program improvements to building principals and district administrators.
  • Serve as a resource person and coordinator for all club sponsors and coaches.
  • Hire and evaluate sponsors, coaches, officials, event supervision staff, scorekeepers and other event staff.
  • Ensure adequate supervision of students before, during and after activities, events, and practices.
  • Communicate with families, staff and students about co-curricular activities, including surveys of students, staff and families, solicitation of sponsors, coaches and supervisors of activities and events via weekly updates.
  • Maintain Clubs and Athletics page on the school website.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use multiple communication tools to provide timely and accurate information and updates to families.
  • Coordinate equipment and facility use with school administrators and Community Rec & Ed.
  • Coordinate the collection of team and club rosters to reflect accurate program and participant information.
  • Ensure readiness of grounds and facilities for events and contests.
  • Obtain and maintain supplies and equipment, in collaboration with sponsors and coaches.
  • Coordinate and organize physical examinations for athletic participation.
  • Organize, distribute and collect student eligibility records.
  • Serve as first level investigator and arbitrator of conflicts that may arise among sponsors, coaches, students and/or parents, and mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise.
