About The Position

As the Athletic Director at Southern Highlands Preparatory School, you will lead the school’s athletic programs and create positive, developmentally appropriate experiences for student-athletes. You will oversee coaches, schedules, competitions, transportation, equipment, program communications, and compliance with school and league requirements. This position is ideal for an organized, collaborative leader who values teamwork, sportsmanship, student development, and school pride.

Requirements

  • Associate degree required
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a K–12 school, youth athletics, or education-related setting.
  • At least two years of experience leading or supervising coaches or athletic staff.
  • Knowledge of athletic league rules, eligibility requirements, and safety practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple teams, schedules, events, and competing priorities.
  • Sound judgment and a student-centered approach to leadership.
  • Proficiency with technology used for scheduling, communication, and recordkeeping.
  • Flexibility to attend practices, competitions, and events outside regular school hours.
  • Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
  • Must be able to work in person at the school campus.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in physical education, education, sports management, athletic administration, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee athletic programs aligned with the school’s mission and educational philosophy.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support coaches and other athletic program staff.
  • Coordinate practices, games, tournaments, awards programs, and other athletic events.
  • Manage athletic schedules, transportation, facilities, officials, equipment, uniforms, and related logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable league rules, eligibility requirements, school policies, and safety procedures.
  • Monitor student-athlete conduct and address concerns in partnership with coaches and school leadership.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, inclusion, and positive competition.
  • Communicate schedules, expectations, and program updates clearly to students, families, and employees.
  • Maintain accurate athletic calendars, records, inventories, and program information.
  • Partner with school leadership on athletic program budgets, priorities, and resource needs.
  • Represent the school professionally at athletic events and within the broader community.
  • Attend practices, competitions, and school events outside regular school hours as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support students and athletic programming.
