About The Position

The Athletic Assistant will have responsibilities in their designated sport, the athletics department in general, and in student housing. Applications must be received by August 1st to be considered for available open slots for the upcoming academic year. This role involves assigned coaching responsibilities, mandatory attendance at orientation, working sporting events, and refereeing/umpiring the Housing Intramural Sports League. The position also requires adhering to housing rules, facilitating community development, familiarizing oneself with safety equipment, maintaining confidentiality, and communicating with various department heads.

Requirements

  • Each candidate must hold a bachelor's degree OR be currently enrolled at SWOCC OR another approved institution with proof of an educational plan.
  • Each candidate must have been recommended for this position by a SWOCC head coach.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assigned coaching responsibilities as directed by their head coach in their designated sport.
  • Mandatory attendance of the early arrival orientation, depending on arrival date.
  • Working of different sporting events as instructed by the Athletic Director. Tasks may include set up, clean up, managing the time clock, taking stats, admission table operation, commentating livestreamed matches, operating the video camera, and any other game management duties as needed.
  • Referee/Umpire and be point person for Housing Intramural Sports League each term in collaboration and under direction of the Resident Director and/or Executive Director of Enrollment and Residence Life.
  • Adhering to the housing rules laid out in the Room and Board Agreement and SWOCC Code of Conduct.
  • Facilitating the development of community at Southwestern by always acting in a professional and positive manner when interacting with staff and students.
  • Familiarizing themselves with fire safety equipment and reporting any potential safety hazards.
  • Use of discretion when discussing campus and/or housing issues with residents and the general public and maintaining confidentiality when dealing with student information and sensitive subject matters.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with the Athletic Director, Head Coaches, Resident Director and Executive Director of Enrollment and Residence Life.
