About The Position
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County (CCE) is offering a paid internship opportunity in the form of a stipend to support its Marine Fisheries Program in conducting at-sea data collection for an ongoing Jonah crab research study. This internship provides hands-on experience in applied marine science and fisheries monitoring and offers the opportunity to work closely with both commercial fishermen and experienced fisheries scientists.
Requirements
- Physically capable of performing strenuous tasks, including heavy lifting and working long hours in unpredictable marine conditions
- Flexible schedule
- Reliable means of transportation
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience aboard vessels
- Familiarity with fieldwork and/or scientific research protocols
Responsibilities
- Participating in fieldwork aboard commercial fishing vessels 1–2 days per week
- Assisting with biological sampling and data collection
- Performing data entry and review in the office 1–2 additional days per week
