About The Position

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County (CCE) is offering a paid internship opportunity in the form of a stipend to support its Marine Fisheries Program in conducting at-sea data collection for an ongoing Jonah crab research study. This internship provides hands-on experience in applied marine science and fisheries monitoring and offers the opportunity to work closely with both commercial fishermen and experienced fisheries scientists.

Requirements

  • Physically capable of performing strenuous tasks, including heavy lifting and working long hours in unpredictable marine conditions
  • Flexible schedule
  • Reliable means of transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience aboard vessels
  • Familiarity with fieldwork and/or scientific research protocols

Responsibilities

  • Participating in fieldwork aboard commercial fishing vessels 1–2 days per week
  • Assisting with biological sampling and data collection
  • Performing data entry and review in the office 1–2 additional days per week
