Astrodynamics Engineer (Multiple)

Apex Tk•Chantilly, VA

About The Position

APEX TK is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Astrodynamics Engineer to support a critical government client on aerospace projects. The role works with a modeling and simulation team to conduct analyses supporting government satellite programs in all types of Earth orbits, collaborating with specialists in astrodynamics, propulsion systems, launch trajectories, sensing, and High Performance Computing (HPC). The engineer may meet with local senior government customers and may optionally present findings to them. The position involves using programming languages such as Python and C++ to work with existing analysis tools and develop new ones, conducting independent trade studies and technical assessments, reviewing and validating algorithms and results from external teams, and preparing and presenting technical briefings. Depending on the applicant’s interests and skills, work may include strategies for significant orbit changes, multi-satellite Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO), or using Space Domain Awareness (SDA) sensor data to perform orbit determination on maneuvering satellites.

Requirements

  • 2–10 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field such as Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace, or Computer Science.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI with CI Poly clearance.
  • Experience performing space-related engineering analysis, including collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, using one or more of: C++, Python, R, SQL, PostgreSQL, Linux, MATLAB, VBA, or STK.
  • Ability to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external customers.
  • Solid understanding of orbital mechanics and space systems.
  • Experience with phenomenological models, including demonstrated ability to model relevant physical phenomena and validate those models.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a STEM-related field.
  • Experience with other simulation tools and programming languages.
