About The Position

As an Intern in BDO’s Assurance practice, you will begin applying your educational background and organizational skills while serving the firm’s client base. You will assist with problem-solving and fact-finding alongside experienced team members who provide direction, coaching, and learning opportunities. The internship offers hands-on exposure to the firm’s practices and people and an opportunity to build professional relationships.

The role includes participating in structured on-the-job training and becoming familiar with accounting and auditing standards, BDO’s audit methodology, and the stages of an audit. Interns support audit staff, communicate with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties about audit issues, and prepare and document work using BDO tools and templates. Interns also complete an accounting- or audit-related research project and present their findings to Assurance professionals.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Accounting.
• Actively pursue school credits toward becoming a CPA.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Be able to follow instructions as directed.
• Be able to work effectively in a team setting.
• Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

• Be pursuing a master’s degree in Accounting.
• Have leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a structured on-the-job training program and become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
• Become familiar with BDO-specific audit methodology and assist with various stages of the audit process.
• Provide support functions to audit staff during engagements.
• Communicate with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties concerning audit issues.
• Prepare and document work in working papers using BDO-specific tools and templates.
• Contribute ideas and opinions to audit teams and listen and respond to other team members’ views.
• Complete an assigned accounting- or audit-related research project and present findings to a panel of Assurance professionals.
• Perform other duties as required.
