About The Position

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services for over 125 years, offering 160-plus programs and services. The Early Childhood Development Centers provide free Head Start services to low-income families for children aged 3 to 5 years in center-based program settings across Brooklyn and Queens. Utilizing the Montessori approach, these centers ensure children are school-ready through developmentally appropriate activities that foster cognitive, social, emotional, language-literacy, and physical development. The Head Start Program emphasizes active parent engagement, recognizing its crucial role in a child's development, and tailors learning experiences to children's evolving needs and abilities.

Requirements

  • CDA (Child Development Associate) Credential required.
  • Study Plan to obtain an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education or a related field (Elementary Education, Nursery to 6th Grade Elementary Education, Special Education, Students with Disabilities Birth to 2nd Grade).
  • 30 credits; 60 credits or Associates Degree; 90 credits; or Bachelor’s Degree preferred including 24 credits in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • 2 years teaching experience in a pre-school classroom preferred.
  • Montessori trained or must commit to enroll in the Agency’s Montessori training program within the first year of hire and complete the training as required.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Teacher in planning and executing age and developmentally appropriate activities aligned with the Montessori curriculum.
  • Assist the Teacher in maintaining written documentation and reports to meet compliance standards of CCNS, ACS, DOH, CACFP, and other relevant overseeing agencies.
  • Facilitate parent involvement in all program aspects and promote positive growth and professional development.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures established by CCNS, ACS, DOH, DOE, and CACFP.
  • Comply with procedural norms and standards of attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality relevant to HIPPA.
  • Ensure a learning environment based on the Montessori approach that supports children's physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and creative development.
  • Supervise the implementation of activities designed to promote children's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative development.
  • Adhere to all funding source Performance Standards and Agency mandates of Catholic Charities Neighborhood Services, Inc.
  • Assume responsibility for classroom operation in the absence of the Teacher.
  • Share information regarding children and the program with parents through daily contact, informal/formal interfacings, home visits, and newsletters.
  • Encourage parents in their role as primary teachers by acting as a resource person, disseminating information, actively listening, and offering suggestions.
  • Complete written observations, progress reports, outcomes reporting, CROWD, and other documents relevant to tracking children's progress.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
