Requirements

  • Working knowledge of kiln/firing operations, production processes, equipment, quality requirements, and safe manufacturing practices, with the ability to develop more advanced supervisory and technical knowledge.
  • Developing leadership and coaching skills with the ability to provide clear work direction and support an effective production team.
  • Ability to interpret production schedules, quality information, operating conditions, and performance data and recognize issues requiring corrective action or escalation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to assist with troubleshooting production and kiln equipment issues in coordination with technical and maintenance resources.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple production priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar business applications.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related manufacturing, kiln/firing, production, or technical experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training in manufacturing, industrial technology, maintenance, ceramics, or a related field preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Prior lead, trainer, or informal team leadership experience preferred; prior formal supervisory experience is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with coordinating day-to-day kiln and firing operations, including firing, re-firing, kiln loading and unloading, and related production activities to support established production schedules, quality standards and operating requirements.
  • Supports daily staffing, work assignments, equipment, materials, and production resource coordination to maintain efficient kiln operations and achieve production objectives.
  • Monitors kiln operating conditions, firing performance, product quality, and production results and escalates or assists in resolving equipment, process, or quality issues.
  • Assists with ensuring the safe and effective operation, inspection, and routine care of kilns, shuttle kilns, kiln cars, setters, and related firing equipment and coordinates with technical or maintenance resources as needed.
  • Monitors production supplies, materials, and spare-parts needs and supports inventory and replenishment activities necessary for continuous kiln operations.
  • Supports productivity, quality, cost, and process improvement efforts through effective application of standard work, equipment, materials, labor, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Reviews and communicates production, quality, and operating information across shifts and with Kiln/Firing leadership to support continuity of operations and timely resolution of issues.
  • Supports compliance with applicable safety, housekeeping, environmental, quality, company, and regulatory requirements, including applicable ISO Quality Management System and Environmental Management System requirements.
  • Serves as a developing front-line leader and provides day-to-day work direction, coaching, and training to Kiln/Firing employees under the guidance of the Supervisor, Kiln or other production leadership.
  • May coordinate staffing, work assignments, and shift activities and provide input regarding employee performance, attendance, training, and operational issues; formal supervisory decisions remain with the designated Supervisor or management unless specifically delegated.
  • Promotes compliance with company policies, safety requirements, quality standards, and applicable workplace requirements.
