This position exemplifies strong customer service in every aspect of the job. The Asst. Store Director directs and controls the operation of the Center Store Departments, including supervising and training personnel to achieve departmental and store sales and profit objectives. They provide feedback and recommendations on operational issues and personnel decisions to the Store Director and Division Management. This role champions corporate and division customer service programs to meet or exceed division customer service goals and instills a culture of excellent customer service in the department and throughout the store. The Asst. Store Director is responsible for total store operations and directing associates throughout the store, as well as department managers, in the absence of or as needed by the Store Director. The primary duty is management of the Center Store Departments. In that regard, they plan, organize and direct day-to-day operations of the Center Store Departments, including dairy and frozen food sections. They conduct daily inspections of all Grocery sections and initiate corrective measures to ensure compliance with product quality and product rotation standards. They maintain in-stock conditions, and ensure compliance with code date standards; cleanliness, sanitation and safety standards; and security requirements. They control pricing by following established division pricing guidelines, and ensuring compliance with the coupon and discount policies. They implement Company and Division operating and merchandising policies and practices, and control merchandise shrink. They supervise and participate in store inventory counts. They establish Center Store Departments operating procedures as required for implementation of Company policies, Division directives and Store Director instructions. They implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions or failure. They order grocery product and maintain inventory levels according to Division directives. They supervise the processing of all reclamation. They maintain orderly and in-stock conditions in the back room, sales floor and all grocery department areas. They supervise receiving, storing, stocking, pricing and merchandising of all Center Store Departments products. They may utilize hand trucks, pallet jacks and the bailer. They properly account for merchandise received. They handle positive customer and vendor relations. They engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques. They monitor the daily log sheet, purchase report, actual versus projected sales and labor. They prepare and display appropriate product signage. Under the supervision of the Store Director, they direct the work of all Center Store Department associates. They schedule Center Store Department associates to ensure adequate coverage and service levels. They direct, motivate, train and participate in the hiring of all Center Store Departments personnel. They ensure that all associates are instructed in the proper performance of work duties and are knowledgeable about Company policies and procedures. They monitor associate performance and effectively recommend personnel action such as hiring, firing, layoff, promotion, demotion, and disciplinary action. They build and maintain associate morale. They resolve associate complaints where appropriate and report action taken to the Store Director. They immediately report any potential serious policy violations, for matters including but not limited to working off the clock, harassment, food safety and sanitation, discrimination, etc., to the Store Director and assist in appropriate handling. They identify and train associates with high potential for advancement opportunities. They understand the store and Center Store Departments Profit and Loss statement, and plan department promotions accordingly. They frequently communicate sales goals, department performance and sales opportunities to department associates to ensure positive results. They answer and respond to incoming telephone calls appropriately. They receive and appropriately resolve customer complaints and report to the Store Director as appropriate. They maintain confidentiality concerning associates, store sales, and Company information. They maintain accurate department records. They are responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity and in compliance with Company policies and procedures. They attend required training and sales meetings.
