About The Position

This role actively participates in training and mentoring bakery department crew members to enthusiastically demonstrate, educate, and sell fresh in-store scratch bakery products. The position involves preparing bakery products by mixing, weighing, scaling, kneading, proofing, donut frying, and baking/finishing. Additionally, there may be involvement in cake decorating, including icing and decorating special occasion cakes and specialty desserts. The role also includes assisting with leadership duties such as planning and assigning work, coaching, administering discipline, providing training, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Daily team huddles are conducted to communicate sales goals and reinforce guest service expectations. Responsibilities also include ordering ingredients, products, and supplies, checking in orders, stocking, and organizing storage areas. The role assists with writing daily plans and weekly work schedules, ensuring merchandise rotation and display maintenance to meet freshness guarantees. Coordination of validation, item authorization, sign making, and POS maintenance for the bakery department is also part of the duties. Accurate record-keeping for damaged/spoiled merchandise, compliance with food and workplace safety regulations, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work area are essential. The position requires acquiring product knowledge across all departments to assist guests and staying updated on weekly specials and promotions to create a delightful guest experience. Cultivating a team-oriented work environment that inspires collaboration and cooperation is also a key aspect. The store operates seven days a week, and the role may require weekend, holiday, and shift work.

Requirements

  • Required months of experience equal to journey-person level baking.
  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried in the department including willingness to taste and evaluate bakery products.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures for proper handling of knives, hand tools and other production baking machinery.
  • Strong work ethic with ability to follow instructions and procedures applying effective time management skills.
  • Math skills necessary, but not limited to: the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, follow recipes, completing sales transactions and calculating discounts.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communicator with ability to professionally and courteously interact with guests, crew members, store management team, corporate sales managers and leadership.
  • Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and detergents in order to clean and sanitize tools using without allergic reaction.
  • Ability to work around food ingredients, produce and spices without allergic reaction.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to equipment use and work environment.
  • Current State Food Handler’s Permit must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares in-store scratch bakery products for sale by mixing, weighing, scaling, kneading, proofing, donut frying and baking/finishing products following established department and company policies and procedures.
  • May be involved in production cake decorating requiring icing and decorating special occasion cakes and other specialty desserts on an as needed basis.
  • Assists with leadership to bakery department crew members including: planning and assigning work, coaching sessions and administering discipline when needed, providing training, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Conducts daily team huddles during each shift in order to communicate sales goals and to reinforce guest service expectations with all bakery department crew members.
  • Assists with writing and placing orders for all ingredients, products and supplies.
  • Checks in order when load is received and dates, stocks and organizes all dry storage, freezers and coolers.
  • Assists with writing daily plans and weekly work schedules that anticipate the needs of the business.
  • Responsible for rotation of merchandise and maintenance of displays ensuring our products meet our freshness guarantee at all times.
  • Assists with the coordination of validation, item authorization, sign making and all in-store bakery department related POS maintenance.
  • Ensures that all displays are properly stocked.
  • Maintains accurate records for damaged/spoiled merchandise in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all food and workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work area and equipment.
  • Works towards acquiring product knowledge within all departments in order to respond to guest questions and provide informative information about merchandise.
  • Stays updated on weekly specials, coupons and other company promotions that encourage an environment that delights our guests.
