About The Position

Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) is a large global asset management organization with a long history and a significant presence worldwide. Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital is a growth investing platform with over $2Bn in Assets Under Management (AUM) across dedicated equity and credit funds. The team focuses on making equity and credit investments in high-growth, capital-efficient companies, primarily in the technology, consumer, and healthcare sectors within North America and Western Europe. They target investments ranging from $20 million to over $75 million and consider various opportunities including first institutional, growth carve-outs, founder liquidity, secondary, and follow-on investments. Expansion Capital's unique ability to invest across the capital structure and its connection to a leading global brand distinguish it in the late-stage investing market.

Requirements

  • Superior academic and performance record.
  • One to two years of investment banking or other relevant finance experience (growth equity, venture capital, private equity, private credit, or other direct investing roles).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting, and financial statement analysis.
  • Excellent written, and verbal presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and desire to network directly with founders and management teams to source new relationships and investment opportunities for the investment team.
  • Maturity to operate both independently and as part of a team, and work directly with founders and management teams of companies.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, accounting or related discipline preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Software industry coverage experience preferred, but all relevant industry coverage experience (e.g., technology, consumer, healthcare) will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Source new investment opportunities by representing Expansion Capital in networking, direct outreach, and other externally facing capacities.
  • Perform due diligence on investment opportunities, including financial modeling, industry research, market research, and developing a deep understanding of customers and competition.
  • Assist in supporting portfolio companies post-investment.
