About The Position

Ogletree Deakins' Tampa, FL, office seeks an Associate to join our nationally recognized Workplace Safety and Health practice group, one of only two practice groups ranked Band 1 in Occupational Safety and Health by Chambers USA, with more than 65 attorneys dedicated to the practice nationwide. The Associate will work directly with experienced OSH attorneys on a broad range of OSHA matters across industries such as construction, manufacturing, landscaping, telecommunications, and energy. The work includes representing employers during OSHA inspections and workplace fatality investigations; negotiating and resolving OSHA citations; litigating contested cases before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, state-plan agencies, and appellate courts; defending OSHA whistleblower complaints; and counseling clients on safety and health compliance, auditing, and OSHA inspection preparedness. Because inspection responses and fatality investigations often require travel on short notice, the Associate should expect occasional travel, including overnight stays, to client sites nationwide.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on mentorship and direct client exposure in a high-volume, nationally prominent practice. The Associate will also assist with OSHA regulatory advocacy on behalf of national employers and industry associations, as well as with training programs for client safety teams, in-house legal staff, and operations leaders. We offer meaningful opportunities to write, publish, and speak, including through the firm's annual Workplace Safety Symposium, for those interested in building their professional presence in the OSH field.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor required
• Admitted to The Florida Bar or eligible for admission and must maintain an active license in good standing throughout employment
• Current 3L law students (graduating in 2027) will be considered
• Excellent analytical and writing skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Demonstrated interest in workplace safety and health law
• Passion for client service and practice development

Nice To Haves

• Experience in workplace safety and health or OSHA-related matters, whether gained at a law firm, government agency, or in-house setting
• Prior work experience as a safety professional before law school

Responsibilities

• Representing employers during OSHA inspections and workplace fatality investigations
