Associates will develop an expert-level understanding of their client base, supported industries, and the firm’s practice areas and services. They will assess the eligibility of corporate foreign national employees for non-immigrant and immigrant visa status, and work with client global mobility personnel to prepare petitions and applications for submission to government agencies. Responsibilities include drafting letters and legal documents, conducting research, supervising paralegal staff, and proactively communicating with clients. Associates are expected to partner with colleagues to resolve issues, share information, and support client projects, while also supporting clients in immigration program management and compliance. Accurate use of firm technology and data entry is essential. The role involves actively contributing to team meetings and firmwide activities, acting as a source of advice and training for junior colleagues, and ensuring self and team adherence to firm standards and policies for risk mitigation and compliance. Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • U.S. JD or LLM required
  • Member of a US State bar or Washington DC bar association
  • 0-2 years of experience at Associate level
  • An academic understanding of immigration law
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proofread documents, draft fluent prose, and avoid grammatical mistakes without the aid of AI engines
  • Dedication to exceptional client service

Responsibilities

  • Develop an expert-level understanding of your client base and the industries you support as well as the firm’s practice areas and services provided.
  • Assess eligibility of corporate foreign national employees for non-immigrant and immigrant visa status.
  • Work with client global mobility personnel to prepare petitions and applications for submission to government agencies for non-immigrant and immigrant foreign national employees.
  • Draft and prepare letters and legal documents, typically based on established precedents.
  • Conduct research to support client requests and projects.
  • Supervise the work of paralegal staff in record keeping and document preparation.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and effectively implement guidance and direction offered by supervisors and experienced colleagues.
  • Proactively communicate with clients, within SLAs/team protocols and with a precise, efficient, thoughtful, and organized response.
  • Partner with colleagues to resolve client issues, share information, and support client projects.
  • Support clients in immigration program management and compliance.
  • Use firm technology accurately and in line with team and client protocols, ensuring accurate and complete data is entered.
  • Actively contribute to team meetings and firmwide activities.
  • Act as a source of advice and training to more junior colleagues, proactively sharing immigration knowledge and expertise.
  • Ensure self and team follow documented firm standards and policy to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory, operational and client compliance.
