About The Position

The Associate Welding Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality classroom, laboratory, and shop instruction for students enrolled in the Welding Technology program during evening hours. The instructor develops and delivers competency-based instruction aligned with industry standards, promotes student success and safety, and maintains an effective learning environment that prepares students for employment in the welding industry. Additionally, this instructor may provide classroom coverage across multiple applied technology disciplines on an as-needed basis (fulfilling the remainder of the minimum 37.5 hour work week).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Diploma or certificate in Welding Technology or a closely related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time wage-earning experience in the welding industry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple welding processes and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate welding certifications and instructor credentials as required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Thorough knowledge of welding processes, fabrication methods, blueprint reading, metallurgy, and welding safety practices.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and welding codes, including AWS standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate welding techniques and operate welding equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to students with varying skill levels.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and utilize computer applications and learning management systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and business and industry partners.
  • Commitment to student success and workforce development.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Welding Technology or a related field.
  • Current or previous American Welding Society (AWS) certifications.
  • Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with competency-based education and student assessment.
  • Experience using computerized instructional technologies and learning management systems.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
  • Experience working with secondary or postsecondary students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and deliver competency-based instruction in accordance with program standards and industry requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, laboratory exercises, and assessments.
  • Provide classroom and hands-on shop instruction in welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and related fabrication techniques.
  • Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records.
  • Promote student welfare, motivation, discipline, safety, and professionalism.
  • Maintain a safe shop environment and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and institutional safety procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment, tools, and consumables used in the welding laboratory.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress and employment opportunities.
  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, and job placement activities.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with local employers and industry partners.
  • Participate in curriculum review and continuous improvement activities to ensure program relevance and quality.
  • Serve on institutional committees and attend meetings, professional development activities, and graduation ceremonies as required.
  • Observe all policies, procedures, and regulations of the Tennessee Board of Regents and the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
