About The Position

Investment Planning Counsel (IPC) is one of Canada's leading independent wealth management firms. In November 2023, Canada Life acquired IPC. This role is within the Kelowna branch, previously Lakeside Financial, an established, growth-oriented advisory practice built on long-term client relationships, disciplined planning, and a high-touch service model. This is not a traditional entry-level role. It is an opportunity for an experienced professional to step into a mature, well-managed book of business and play a meaningful role in client relationships, financial planning, and the continued growth of the practice. The successful candidate will work closely with the team, gaining direct exposure to clients while contributing to planning strategy, portfolio oversight, and ongoing client engagement. This position is structured as a growth pathway within a high-performing practice. Within 12–24 months, success in this role will typically include leading segments of client meetings and relationships, taking ownership of financial plans for a defined group of clients, playing a more direct role in investment discussions and recommendations, and becoming a key contributor to the team’s growth and client strategy. Longer term, this role can evolve toward Lead Advisor / Portfolio Manager responsibilities, depending on experience and performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years in wealth management or financial advisory
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and client-facing work
  • Exposure to portfolio construction and investment strategy (beyond administration)
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and relationship-building capability
  • Active CSC (Canadian Securities Course) – required
  • IIROC licensing – required
  • You will be expected to work effectively within a structured advisory platform, including CRM systems for client management, financial planning software, and ongoing reporting and portfolio monitoring processes.
  • Comfort with technology is essential, not just for efficiency, but for enhancing the client experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in client meetings and progressively take on a more active role in discussions
  • Build trusted relationships with clients through responsive, professional communication
  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality service experience aligned with the team’s standards
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive financial plans using the team’s planning tools
  • Contribute to planning strategy, including retirement, tax, and risk considerations
  • Monitor client progress and update plans as circumstances evolve
  • Support portfolio construction and ongoing monitoring to ensure alignment with client objectives
  • Conduct research on approved investment and insurance solutions
  • Assist in implementing investment strategies within the team’s framework
  • Includes management of mutual funds, ETF’s, individual securities and private investments
  • Identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships
  • Support business development initiatives and client retention efforts
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and client experience
