Stevens Foster Financial AdvisorsBloomington, MN

About The Position

Stevens Foster is seeking an Associate Wealth Advisor with a tax background to transition into a client-facing advisory role. This newly structured position combines foundational client account management responsibilities with significant tax advisory work. The ideal candidate has experience in tax preparation or advisory services and wishes to apply this expertise within a wealth management context, working directly with clients. This is a development role focused on client relationships and tax-aware advisory within a structured, team-based firm, not a back-office or sales position. The role involves working with experienced advisors, participating in client meetings, and serving as a subject matter expert for tax-related inquiries. Over time, the individual will assume greater responsibility for client relationships within the firm's integrated planning model.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of direct experience preparing or advising on individual, trust, or entity tax returns.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of individual income taxation, deductions, and planning strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; professional presence in client-facing settings.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities during peak cycles.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation, or active progress toward completion.
  • Experience working in a wealth management, RIA, or financial planning environment.
  • Exposure to fiduciary, trust, estate, or gift taxation.
  • Familiarity with investment taxation and tax-efficient planning strategies.
  • Interest in or progress toward the CFP® designation or Series 65.
  • Comfort with tax software such as Lacerte, and research tools such as RIA Checkpoint or BNA.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in client meetings alongside advisors to observe and contribute to planning and advisory discussions.
  • Prepare meeting materials, agendas, and summaries; document client goals and follow-up items in the firm’s CRM.
  • Communicate client needs clearly to Planning, Tax, and Investment teams, and coordinate deliverables across departments.
  • Gradually take on greater responsibility for client communication and relationship management over time.
  • Review and analyze client tax returns (individual, fiduciary, trust, gift, and entity) with advisors to identify planning opportunities.
  • Develop tax projections and estimated payment schedules for clients with complex income situations.
  • Serve as an internal tax resource — supporting advisors and client managers on tax-related questions and planning considerations.
  • Connect tax concepts to broader wealth strategy (investment taxation, retirement distributions, equity compensation, estate planning).
  • Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes and communicate their impact to the advisory team.
  • Support account paperwork, money movement, transfers, and DocuSign coordination.
  • Partner with Client Service Associates and Operations to ensure client requests are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain organized client records and assist with gathering financial documents.
