The Associate Vice-President, Advanced Wealth Planning is responsible for the development, execution and maintenance of comprehensive wealth plans for Wellington-Altus (WA) clients, for managing a team of Senior Wealth Planners and Wealth Planners, and for supporting the VP in the execution of team strategy alongside the other Associate Vice-Presidents. The primary focus of the role is delivering high-quality, comprehensive wealth plans to WA advisory teams and their business owner, incorporated professional and other high-net-worth clients. The Associate Vice-President may also contribute to thought leadership, advisor tools, or best practice development on a secondary basis in support of broader team and firm initiatives.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in business administration, accounting, finance, or similar field of study.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in wealth planning role.
  • Proficiency with the MSOffice suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a national team whose members have varied backgrounds and industry experience.
  • Ability and inclination to support more junior team members and provide mentorship and guidance.
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism that allows clients to feel comfortable discussing personal, confidential information.
  • Strong presentational skills.
  • Desire to keep up to date with Canada’s overall economic and financial environment, current events and trends and changes to legislation as it relates to income tax and wealth transfer planning.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit to participate in WA continued growth, and a desire to continuously exceed advisor and client expectations.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • A background check, satisfactory to the employer, may be required of the successful applicant prior to commencing employment.
  • Must be able to travel for business trips up to 0-10% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional accounting or legal designation is an asset.
  • Strong income tax and insurance background would be an asset.
  • CFP or equivalent.
  • TEP, FEA, and/or CLU designations would be an asset.
  • Experience using Conquest is an asset.
  • Comfort working with AI-assisted tools and a willingness to adapt workflows as new technologies are adopted across the team. Candidates with hands-on experience applying AI tools within a wealth planning or financial services context would be considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational, analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in working with ultra-high-net-worth clients, business owners and foreign assets is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meeting with existing & potential clients. Help clients to articulate and identify their short and long-term goals.
  • Proactively maintain current and in-depth knowledge of all areas of the wealth planning process, including financial, education, insurance and risk management, retirement, tax, business and estate planning.
  • Driving the Wellington-Altus wealth planning process and continuously look for ways to improve and enhance the Wellington-Altus client experience.
  • Conducting discovery process through document gathering, communications with client and Investment Advisor teams, and client meeting.
  • Identifying and entering client information into planning software and generate financial and other wealth plan aspects.
  • Managing the various wealth planning deliverables through the process.
  • Reviewing wealth plan deliverables and goals-based reporting with Investment Advisor and their clients.
  • Identifying outside assets and referral/Centers of Influence opportunities.
  • Collaborating and working closely with client’s other professional advisors in the spirit of delivering a holistic experience.
  • Directly manage a team of Senior Wealth Planners and Wealth Planners, including performance management, coaching, workload oversight, and supporting their professional development and technical acumen as planners.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with Centers of Influence.
  • Supporting the Vice-President in the execution of team strategy, working collaboratively with the other Associate Vice-Presidents to advance planning capacity, consistency, and quality across the team.
  • Recognizing and fostering intergenerational wealth management amongst Wellington-Altus advisors and their client families.
  • On a secondary basis, contribute to advisor-facing thought leadership, planning tools, training materials, or educational seminars as directed by the Vice-President and in support of broader team priorities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
