About The Position

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) or equivalent degree.
  • License in good standing with the Nevada state veterinary board.
  • Nevada Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substances and Dispensing Licenses.
  • DEA Licenses.
  • Ability to bend, stand, stoop, squat, kneel, walk, sit, talk, and listen.
  • Ability to work in a bent position.
  • Ability to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to use strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to handle dogs weighing up to and over 150 lbs.
  • Follow federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA and DEA.
  • Knowledge of principles, theories, and practices of veterinary medicine and science.
  • Knowledge of procedures for receiving, treating, and scheduling patients, ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including federal and state regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, medical texts.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondences.
  • Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment including sterilization techniques.
  • Knowledge of plant and animal organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment.
  • Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services.
  • Knowledge of the English language, spelling, and meaning of commonly used terminology of veterinary medicine.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to speak with clients and to hear and observe patients to elicit information, describe changes, and perceive nonverbal communications.
  • Sufficient motor function to elicit information from patients by palpation, auscultation, percussion, and other diagnostic maneuvers.
  • Ability to execute motor activities reasonably required to provide general care and safe restraint, perform diagnostic procedures, and provide emergency treatment to patients.
  • Mental and emotional health required for full utilization of intellectual abilities, good judgment, prompt completion of responsibilities, and development of mature, sensitive, and effective relationships.
  • Good judgment in patient assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic planning.
  • Critical thinking, complex problem solving, time management, judgment, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform primary duties satisfactorily.
  • Diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities in animals.
  • Provide preventive health-care measures.
  • Receive, treat, and schedule patients.
  • Order medical supplies and request laboratory tests.
  • Record results of tests and file veterinary medical reports.
  • Obtain and enter client information.
  • Order laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Receive and send messages.

  • Practice the highest standard of medicine and uphold the veterinary code of ethics.
