Oaktree is seeking an associate to work within the U.S. Senior Loans Group for a 2-year program. The U.S. Senior Loan strategy, initially formed in September 2007, capitalizes on the backlog of "hung" bridge loans held by investment banks. The strategy typically invests in broadly-syndicated, senior-secured loans or other senior, non-investment-grade debt, often constituting the most senior component in the borrower’s capital structure. In 2012, a new product, Enhanced Income, was introduced, investing in senior loans through a lightly-levered CLO structure, followed by a traditional CLO product launch in 2014. The strategy focuses on U.S. dollar-denominated loans secured by first-priority liens in performing companies primarily within the U.S. and Canada, with potential investments in Europe. While less common, investments may also include second lien loans, non-dollar-denominated loans, and secured or unsecured bonds when the value of the underlying business comfortably exceeds the value of the claim in a downside scenario.
