About The Position

The Marine Associate Underwriter will underwrite a Marine and Energy book of business. This position involves marketing, analyzing risks along with setting terms and conditions of a contract. Our underwriters are expected to produce business and make an underwriting profit for the company. Willing to train an insurance professional in the marine industry. Key Accountabilities/Deliverables: Marketing, producing accounts, understanding Marine and Energy exposures, knowing how to price account and the policy forms to use. The underwriter must make sure to write business within the reinsurance guidelines. The goal is to write a growing profitable book of business. Assist with a brokerage operations. Will build strong working relationships with Worldwide Marine market, with a strong relationship with brokers in the East Coast, Midwest, and Gulf Coast regions. Must be able to work as a team member, including the USA Marine Team in NY. Excellent communication skills are needed. Must be disciplined and conservative to maintain an underwriting standard of writing quality business at a profitable level. Must be able to understand, control, and monitor the aggregation of exposures. Since we work in a global environment, we must control the aggregations with our underwriters throughout the world. Analyze risks. Set proper terms and conditions including pricing to make an underwriting profit. Work within the parameters of our reinsurance treaty. The Associate Underwriter will have the responsibility of completing introductory courses through The American Institute of Marine Underwriters. Will also attend Marine and industry related conferences and trainings as required. Expected travel will be required. Other duties as assigned. Technical Knowledge and Understanding: Will gain a strong understanding of the different lines of business in the Marine space. Will gain a solid understanding of the Marine industry. Will gain a strong understanding of the different policy forms for each line of business. Will gain an understanding of the lines of business, forms and pricing the exposures written.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of 1+ years of experience working in the insurance industry.
Excellent communication skills.
Must be disciplined and conservative.
Ability to understand, control, and monitor the aggregation of exposures.
Ability to analyze risks.
Ability to set proper terms and conditions including pricing.
Ability to work within the parameters of our reinsurance treaty.
