About The Position

Applies underwriting policy, philosophy and procedures to evaluate the acceptability of submitted or existing business. Based on qualifications and experience, this position can be filled at either an Associate Underwriter - CL or Underwriter - CL level.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree with an emphasis in Risk Management and/or Insurance preferred or equivalent work experience
0-5+ years of related work experience
Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication skills, negotiation skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
Demonstrated experience in analysis, defining and solving problems and use of good judgment and decision making.
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of underwriting systems and/or various software applications beneficial.
Insurance courses related to property and casualty insurance, such as IIA and CPCU beneficial.

Responsibilities

Utilize manuals, procedures and collected information to handle basic to complex underwriting assignments while referring business outside of authority limits
Review classes of business, exposures, losses, and submissions
Correspond with Territory Executives and Underwriting Support Specialists to verify submission information
Maintain privacy and confidentiality requirements
Participate in underwriting training sessions
Assist with additional duties and underwriting projects as needed
Perform Placement of reinsurance assignments
Work closely with other business functions to ensure service and quality objectives are met
Attend/partake in company/industry sponsored continuing education seminars and annual team meetings
May assist with training other underwriters on underwriting procedures
