About The Position

Bishop O’Dowd High School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Temporary Associate Therapist (AMFT, APCC) to provide social-emotional support and mental health services to students in alignment with the school’s commitment to student well-being and Catholic mission. Under the supervision of our licensed MFT clinician, the Associate Therapist will provide school-based wellness therapy, collaborating closely with the wellness team, counseling department and families to foster a supportive learning environment. This position is ideal for an associate-level mental health professional who is passionate about adolescent development, working in a school-based milieu and strength-based counseling. The Associate Therapist will provide individual and small-group counseling, crisis support, and wellness programming to help students navigate personal and academic challenges.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
  • Associate-level registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences required (AMFT or APCC)
  • Experience working with K-12 students in a school, clinic, or community mental health setting (practicum/graduate school experience qualifies)
  • Understanding of child and adolescent development, social-emotional learning and crisis/trauma-informed care
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in mental health services
  • Ability to work within a Catholic educational environment

Nice To Haves

  • Training in strength-based/solution-focused counseling, suicide prevention, crisis response and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy tools/skills
  • Experience in private Catholic or independent schools

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of a licensed therapist, provide school-based wellness counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges
  • Conduct assessments and referrals for students needing additional mental health support
  • Offer crisis intervention and risk assessment in collaboration with the wellness team, counseling department and administration
  • Maintain appropriate confidential records in compliance with legal requirements, ethical guidelines and school policies
  • Work closely with clinical supervisor, wellness team and school counselors to support student well-being
  • Support and/or facilitate small-group counseling based on wellness themes: i.e. Self-Care, Healthy Relationships, Anxiety/Stress Management (using CBT tools to build resilience, etc.)
  • Assist in providing referrals to outside mental health providers when needed
  • Participate in group and individual clinical supervision
