About The Position

The Associate Systems Engineer supports the stability, security, and performance of the organization's cloud and on-premises infrastructure. Working with senior engineers, this role implements, monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots infrastructure systems. The position contributes to projects and operational support across the organization's cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, as well as on-premises solutions. It also supports documentation, testing, and automation while continuing to build engineering knowledge and experience.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and at least two years of systems, infrastructure, or cloud engineering experience. An equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies is required, including Microsoft Azure, AWS, or a comparable cloud platform. Relevant exposure may come from professional experience, formal training, certification coursework, labs, or a homelab environment.
  • Working knowledge of cloud compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, backup, or related services.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, virtualization, enterprise storage, and hybrid infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and multifactor authentication.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues across cloud, server, identity, storage, virtualization, application, and network layers.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs, certificates, and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with PowerShell or another scripting or automation tool.
  • Basic knowledge of security and compliance practices, including access control, patching, vulnerability remediation, logging, and encryption.
  • Experience supporting backup, recovery, monitoring, and alerting technologies.
  • Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, AWS CloudWatch, ITSM, or comparable operational tools.
  • Experience following change-management processes and creating clear technical documentation.
  • Ability to contribute to infrastructure projects, complete assigned engineering tasks, and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and continuous-learning skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365, VMware, security, or other relevant technical certification is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and SQL Server is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supports cloud and on-premises infrastructure to deliver reliable solutions for business needs.
  • Assists with the design, deployment, and support of systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Participates in the evaluation of cloud services, systems, designs, and technologies.
  • Provides technical support for incidents and service requests escalated to the Systems Engineering team.
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation, operating procedures, and support instructions.
  • Collaborates with IT, Security, Applications, Networking, and business teams to deliver supportable solutions.
  • Helps keep cloud services, operating systems, software, firmware, and hardware current, supported, and patched.
  • Monitors and maintains infrastructure availability, performance, capacity, and reliability.
  • Follows and supports security, governance, compliance, identity, access, and configuration standards.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve and automate routine administration using PowerShell and similar tools.
  • Creates and updates architecture diagrams, system records, build documents, and implementation plans.
  • Supports backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster recovery processes and testing.
  • Works with stakeholders and senior engineers to understand requirements and resolve infrastructure issues.
  • Assists with capacity information, lifecycle reviews, licensing data, inventory, and technical research.
  • Verifies compatibility and interoperability across cloud and on-premises systems.
  • Performs testing, change validation, implementation tasks, and post-change verification.
  • Monitors system performance and prepares operational, availability, and capacity information.
  • Works with vendors and contractors to gather technical information and resolve assigned support issues.
  • Participates in knowledge transfer and provides technical assistance to IT staff and end users.
