About The Position

The Associate Supervisor is responsible for supporting NYBG Shop retail operations with a specific emphasis on horticultural operations at NYBG Shop, including: plant receiving, ticketing, merchandising, nursery maintenance tasks and daily operations. They will uphold the plant quality and professional standards of NYBG while assisting in meeting sales goals and educating visitors.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in plant care and nursery maintenance preferred
  • Knowledge of tropical, orchids, annuals, perennials
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to move or lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Commerce & Experience and Manager, Retail Experience to ensure operational efficiency in receiving, tagging, stocking, displaying, markdowns, watering, cleaning, and maintaining all plants and display areas in NYBG Shop during all seasons and weather.
  • Proactively communicate plant inventory needs and buying recommendations to Director throughout the week and as needed.
  • Ensure daily completion of replenishment and watering of plant areas on Store Zone Checklist.
  • Share plant and product knowledge, new arrivals, and current trends to inform and inspire customers and staff.
  • Actively participate in managing the store environment and customer experience by facilitating an energized pace.
  • Seeks out knowledge to become an expert in all store plants and products.
  • Keyholder - supports daily operating processes such as opening and closing procedures, customer service, and register functions.
  • Adheres to and upholds store safety standards, with an emphasis on outdoor safety re: tripping hazards, pests, etc.
  • Review, verify plant vendor invoices by matching up invoices to receiving documents. Communicate with management regarding incomplete orders and damages.
  • Diligence in maintaining visual merchandising of all plant areas, including care and emphasis on cleaning the outdoor courtyard
