The Associate Structural Engineer designs safe, efficient main and secondary structural systems for industrial exhaust ducting. This role supports power generation projects utilizing large-scale combustion turbines. You will perform calculations, create Structural Analysis 3D models, and collaborate with fabrication teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • Proficiency in STAAD.Pro, or RISA-3D, and AutoCAD.
  • Basic understanding of high-temperature materials and thermal expansion.
  • Strong technical writing skills to document design choices.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills in a professional work environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to occasional scheduled video meetings and collaborative tasks is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Autodesk® Inventor or similar 3D mechanical design software.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status preferred.
  • Basic understanding of thermal expansion concepts in large lined and insulated ducting or plate structures.
  • Experience FEM work analysis and mesh modeling.
  • Knowledge of common industrial welding practices and fabrication constraints.
  • Ability to interpret process drawings; P&IDs and coordinate ducting layouts with process requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform member sizing conforming to LRFD and/or ASD methods per AISC 360 bending, deflection, and stability checks using static loading and environmental or operating loading such as: wind, seismic, and thermal calculations for exhaust ducting systems.
  • Develop 3D structural models of ducting, internal liners, and support steel.
  • Ensure designs meet AISC 360, ASCE 7, AWS D1.1, and applicable international building codes.
  • Review fabrication drawings, answer shop inquiries, and resolve material issues.
  • Coordinate with pipe stress/mechanical engineers, project engineers/managers, and drafting personnel.
  • Prepare clear, organized structural calculation packages for client review.
