About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Product Development, the Associate Software Engineer supports the implementation and maintenance of Cofense products. As part of a cross-functional team, the role expands and maintains application features and functionality, including new AI-powered product features, while maintaining a commitment to quality. The engineering team extensively uses AI-assisted development tools, and the engineer is expected to use them effectively and responsibly in day-to-day work. The position also provides remote technical guidance to customers deploying and operating Cofense solutions, documents and addresses client-specific needs arising from varied computing environments, and develops Level 1 and Level 2 support reference documentation for Customer Support staff. Requirements

Ability to work comfortably across the web stack, including PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as Java.
Knowledge of software development best practices and the ability to make pragmatic decisions about technical debt to meet business needs.
Ability to write intentional, readable code.
Stay current with software, security, and AI developments.
Comfort using AI-assisted development tools and exercising sound judgment about when and how to rely on their output.
Awareness of security, privacy, and data-handling considerations when using AI tools and building AI features.
Self-starter able to take a task from requirements gathering through completion.
Ability to work pragmatically and effectively with collocated and remote teams in a dynamic business environment.
Effective communication skills.
Willingness and ability to learn and apply new knowledge quickly.
Attention to detail.
Availability to work off-hours occasionally.
Ability to travel occasionally for team meetings and events.
Strong network communication troubleshooting experience.

Nice To Haves

Working understanding of incorporating AI/LLM-based features into applications, such as calling model APIs, prompt design, handling non-deterministic output, and evaluating results.
Basic image creation and manipulation skills.
Bachelor’s degree.
Three or more years of professional software development or engineering experience.
Recent post-school production experience developing or supporting applications.
Experience with more than one programming language.
Experience building or integrating AI/ML- or LLM-based application features.
Experience using AI coding assistants or agents in a professional development workflow.
Customer support experience, such as retail, help desk, or consulting.
Professional experience with server configuration and application deployment.
Experience troubleshooting solutions deployed in enterprise networks.

Responsibilities

Write quality code to implement product features.
Implement new features and bug fixes using clear, robust, and maintainable code.
Contribute to the design, implementation, and testing of AI-powered product features, including integrating LLMs and other AI services into applications.
Use AI-assisted development tools to support day-to-day work, reviewing and validating AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability.
Share knowledge through pairing and code reviews.
Support team planning by assessing the technical feasibility of product features.
Provide remote technical guidance to customers deploying and operating Cofense solutions.
Document and address client-specific needs resulting from variability in computing environments.
Develop Level 1 and Level 2 support reference documentation for Cofense Customer Support staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
