The Hartford’s Tech, Data, Analytics & Cyber organization is hiring early career engineers who are excited to solve real business problems and contribute to meaningful, enterprise-scale solutions. The Tech Catalyst Program is a structured, immersive experience designed to accelerate your development as a modern software engineer. You will gain hands-on experience delivering technology solutions while building foundational and emerging skills across full-stack engineering, cloud platforms, and AI-enabled systems. This program reflects our commitment to building a future-ready workforce—equipping early career talent with the capabilities needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving technology landscape. This is a hybrid role based in Columbus, OH.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (expected graduation: May 2027) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 at time of graduation
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future
  • Foundational programming experience in Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar languages
  • Exposure to web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks)
  • Understanding of software development principles and Agile methodologies
  • Familiarity or experience with AI concepts
  • Passionate about building technology that delivers business and customer value
  • Curious and motivated to learn emerging technologies including AI, cloud, and automation
  • Comfortable working in environments with ambiguity and change
  • Strong problem solver with analytical thinking skills
  • Effective communicator and collaborative team member

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred; GCP or Azure helpful)
  • Exposure to APIs, microservices, or distributed systems
  • AI/ML coursework, certifications, or applied projects
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to modern engineering teams
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable applications using technologies such as Java, .NET, React, and Angular
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), from ideation through production support
  • Apply engineering best practices, including clean code, test automation, and CI/CD
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, and data partners
  • Develop and deploy applications using cloud-native architectures (AWS, with GCP for AI capabilities)
  • Work with APIs, microservices, and containerized solutions
  • Support cloud modernization and platform engineering initiatives
  • Leverage foundational AI/ML concepts within software solutions
  • Utilize AI-assisted development tools (including Google Vertex) to enhance productivity
  • Support integration of AI and automation into business workflows and applications
  • Develop awareness of responsible AI and ethical engineering practices
  • Translate business problems into technical solutions
  • Communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Contribute to inclusive, collaborative team environments
  • Demonstrate adaptability and continuous learning in a fast-changing technology landscape
  • Participate in a 10-week immersive onboarding and technical training experience
  • Engage in continued capability-building focused on modern engineering, cloud, and AI
  • Gain hands-on delivery and exposure by placement on Agile engineering teams delivering real business outcomes
