About The Position

The purpose of this role is to effectively lend client securities in the Americas to optimize revenues globally, ensuring that a high level of customer service is maintained within the agreed client mandate and risk framework. The HSBC Agency Lending team sits within the Securities Services (“SSv”) asset class, part of the wider Markets and Securities Services (MSS) business. SSv provides a range of securities services to a diverse client base, including sovereign wealth funds, major insurance companies, asset managers, investment banks, government agencies, investment trusts, collective investment schemes, corporates, and pension funds. Securities Services operates globally with major centers in London, Hong Kong, New York, and Dubai, employing over 3,000 staff. The service offerings include global custody, UK sub-custody, trustee and depository services, investment administration, performance consultancy, securities lending, treasury, and FX, with assets under custody/administration totaling approximately $5 trillion. The business is regulated by the FSA.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in securities lending or a related financing / markets role, with exposure to equity finance, fixed income financing, repo, collateral, or inventory-driven trading activity.
  • Understanding of securities lending transactions, pricing, and market dynamics, with the ability to balance revenue opportunities with client constraints, liquidity needs, and operational considerations.
  • Strong understanding of supply / demand dynamics, specials, utilization, collateral structures, and counterparty behavior.
  • Understanding of client profiles and investment strategies, with the ability to optimize risk and return outcomes within client guidelines and portfolio constraints.
  • Knowledge of counterparty profiles and market activities, including prime brokers, broker-dealers, repo desks, and funding desks.
  • Good understanding of the securities lending trade lifecycle and wider custody functions, including income, settlements, corporate actions, recalls, returns, and exception management.
  • Experience managing inventory allocation and identifying revenue opportunities across a global borrower base.
  • Experience partnering with internal support teams, including Technology, Operations, Middle Office, and Product, to develop solutions, improve workflows, and enhance efficiency and controls.
  • Strong analytical skills, commercial judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. as HSBC will not engage in immigration sponsorship for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bloomberg and relevant trading, financing, or custody platform knowledge preferred.
  • Familiarity with VBA, Python, SQL, or other automation tools is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lend client securities in the Americas to optimize revenues globally.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service is maintained within the agreed client mandate and risk framework.
  • Make decisions on individual loans for non-discretionary contracts (within the terms of that contract) and discretionary contracts where full authority is held to trade at competitive and profitable rates.
  • Comply with all US regulatory and licensing requirements.
  • Ensure that SSv develops and consistently maintains a premier quality reputation, internally and externally, for the Securities Lending aspects of its business.
  • Support internal functions in the delivery of business priorities.
  • Manage external stakeholders including Clients, Counterparts, and 3rd party vendors.
  • Manage internal stakeholders including Client Management, Product Management, Treasury Operations, and Business Development.
  • Build trust across regions and locations.
  • Influence and negotiate to gain a win-win outcome.
  • Use input from client and market contacts to contribute to the development of new and enhanced SSv lending products.
  • Improve client retention and satisfaction through effective delivery and enhanced revenue from the lending products.
  • Trade within the HSBC Governance framework, including HSS Trading Limits and HSS Credit Risk Exposures.
  • Adhere to best execution and fair distribution principles.
  • Demonstrate risk awareness and judgment of ad-hoc events which could threaten day-to-day business and clients.
  • Follow escalation protocols and procedures in accordance with policy.
