About The Position

The Kilo Lab Scientist supports the translation of laboratory-developed chemical processes into safe, robust, executable manufacturing processes in the New Brunswick Kilo Lab and beyond. The role works hands-on with multidisciplinary Chemical Process Development teams to prepare, scale up, and execute processes for manufacturing GMP active drug substance for pharmaceutical development. Scientists execute processes from laboratory scale through 200L and work directly with processing equipment during campaign preparation and manufacturing. The Kilo Lab also evaluates emerging manufacturing technologies and methodologies. The position leads and coordinates manufacturing campaigns, covering process design and scale-up, equipment selection and setup, materials planning, process safety evaluation, recipe development, batch execution, equipment cleaning, process documentation, and post-campaign assessment. It requires scientific understanding, practical problem-solving, mechanical aptitude, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental compliance.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • 1–3 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply scientific and technical principles to laboratory, process development, scale-up, or manufacturing activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic laboratory and manufacturing environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work hands-on with chemical processing equipment and perform activities associated with setup, operation, and execution of manufacturing processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively across scientific and engineering disciplines in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound technical judgment, and manage assigned activities with appropriate supervision.
  • Commitment to safe working practices, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Relevant industry experience in laboratory process development, chemical process scale-up, pilot-scale operations, or pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with chemical processing equipment and unit operations used in synthetic chemical manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of GMP manufacturing principles and process safety practices.
  • Experience translating laboratory procedures into larger-scale manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with emerging or intensified manufacturing technologies, including continuous or flow processing.
  • Ability and interest in applying and expanding technical capabilities across process development and manufacturing, including supporting Development Engineering laboratory activities and Process Engineering activities associated with externally executed manufacturing campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation and scale-up of chemical processes from the development laboratory into the New Brunswick Kilo Lab to support clinical development and GMP active drug substance manufacturing.
  • Work hands-on with chemists, engineers, analytical scientists, and other cross-functional partners to translate laboratory processes into safe, robust, executable manufacturing operations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute Kilo Lab manufacturing campaigns, including equipment selection and setup, raw material planning, process safety readiness, recipe preparation, batch execution, cleaning, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Apply scientific and engineering principles to identify and resolve technical and operational challenges during process scale-up and manufacturing.
  • Review process safety information and translate process requirements and operating boundaries into appropriate manufacturing practices.
  • Monitor and assess process performance during manufacturing, documenting observations, deviations, learnings, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Ensure manufacturing activities comply with applicable safety, GMP, environmental, and procedural requirements.
  • Collaborate with development teams before and after campaigns to incorporate scale-up and manufacturing learnings into subsequent process development.
  • Participate in evaluating and implementing new equipment, manufacturing technologies, and processing methodologies within the Kilo Lab.
  • Contribute to a collaborative working environment through effective communication, knowledge sharing, and partnership across scientific and engineering disciplines.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefit plans, including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance offerings.
  • Flexible Time Off for eligible U.S.-based exempt employees, subject to manager approval.
  • Paid vacation for eligible non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico.
  • 11 paid company holidays; eligible employees in the specified non-exempt groups also receive 3 optional holidays.
  • Depending on eligibility, paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs.
  • Annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year's Day for eligible employees.
