Associate Scientist, Post Doc Fellow- Quantitative Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics

Merck•Upper Gwynedd Township, PA
•$82,000 - $92,000•Hybrid

About The Position

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program is designed to provide industrial postdoctoral researchers with an academic focus in a commercial environment, supported by the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company. The fellow will join the Quantitative Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics group and work with a collaborative team spanning quantitative pharmacology, preclinical ADME, translational PK/PD, and discovery biology. The project will advance translational pharmacokinetic modeling to support pediatric exposure prediction and dose selection using available nonclinical and clinical data, with a focus on long-acting or Fc-modified biologics. The fellow will develop and apply quantitative pharmacology models to characterize pharmacokinetics, support translation across populations, and inform pediatric development. They will evaluate model assumptions, performance, and uncertainty; integrate data from multiple sources; and communicate findings to multidisciplinary research teams. Fellows work with a dedicated mentor, collaborate with experienced scientists, and are integrated into the larger group.

Requirements

  • Must currently hold a Ph.D. or receive a Ph.D. no later than spring 2027.
  • Ph.D. in mathematical biology, systems biology, statistics/biostatistics, mathematics/applied mathematics, computer science, computational biology/chemistry, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, pharmacometrics, chemical/biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with pharmacokinetic modeling, such as population PK (popPK) modeling or physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language or pharmacometrics application, such as R, MATLAB, Python, NONMEM, Monolix, or Phoenix WinNonlin.
  • Scientific writing skill demonstrated by a publication record, including preprints.

  • Knowledge of monoclonal antibody pharmacokinetic properties, respiratory viruses, pediatric pharmacology, translational modeling, or biologics drug development.
  • Experience modeling preclinical or clinical pharmacokinetics of monoclonal antibodies.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams that include clinicians and biologists.

Responsibilities

  • Review and curate relevant nonclinical and clinical pharmacokinetic data from published and internal sources.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources to support quantitative model development, evaluation, and application.
  • Develop and qualify fit-for-purpose pharmacokinetic and translational models to address questions in pediatric drug development.
  • Evaluate model performance and uncertainty and translate results into recommendations for multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Present research at conferences and/or publish in peer-reviewed journals.
