About The Position

The Associate Scientist I supports select activities in the Agrigenomics Lab, including sample preparation, DNA extraction, genotyping, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), and data analysis for plant, animal, and human specimens. The role may also involve preparing paperwork, cleaning the laboratory, communicating with customers and colleagues, and assisting with staff training. The Associate Scientist assists with equipment maintenance and calibration and supports the lab’s ISO quality system and EBDI Safety program.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science in a field related to Agriculture or Laboratory Science is required; relevant work experience may replace some education.
• Good attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Good communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to learn lab-specific hardware and software as needed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct testing-related processes in the Agrigenomics Lab.
• Prepare paperwork.
• Prepare leaf, seed, and animal samples.
• Extract DNA.
• Perform general laboratory cleaning.
• Perform genotyping.
• Work with microarray technology.
• Perform Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
• Perform data analysis.
• Communicate with customers.
• Assist in training staff.
• Communicate internally about processes.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Support and maintain the ISO quality system.
• Support and maintain the EBDI Safety program.
• Perform other duties as needed and as required by workflows.
