About The Position

The Associate Scientist performs a variety of moderately complex research tasks determined by the field and scope of the particular research project/study. Also, performs tasks related to the research project independently, but within broad guidelines and subject to periodic review by supervisor or other research staff. The Department of Hematology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist for the Human iPSC Core facility. The selected candidate will collaborate across the department on the maintenance, differentiation, and validation of iPSC lines and will oversee the operational flow of multiple projects. The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in Molecular Biology and pluripotent stem cell culture, alongside a proven track record of managing complex laboratory workflows. The ability to work efficiently and communicate effectively with people at all levels within an organization will help you be successful in this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific area
  • 7 + years of research experience is required
  • 5 + years of research experience is required with a Master’s degree
  • 2 + years of research experience is required with a PHD
  • Deep expertise in Molecular Biology and pluripotent stem cell culture
  • Proven track record of managing complex laboratory workflows
  • Ability to work efficiently and communicate effectively with people at all levels within an organization

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading and supporting research experiments preferred
  • Some experience leading lab and scientific project coordination, maintenance, and other research support activities preferred
  • Experience in guiding and training other laboratory personnel is preferred
  • Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role

Responsibilities

  • Assists the principal investigator with the collection and analysis of data for specified research projects.
  • Assist in the differentiation of iPSCs into the hematopoietic lineage, following established protocols.
  • Set up hematopoietic differentiation protocols using new or modified laboratory techniques and troubleshoot experiments independently.
  • Conduct phenotypic and genotypic analysis of iPSCs and differentiated cells using techniques such as flow cytometry, immunostaining, qPCR, and Western blotting.
  • Identify experimental data pertinent to the analysis problem; process, organize, and summarize data; report results.
  • Assist in the drafting and editing of manuscripts, posters, SOPs, and policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the iPSCs hematopoietic differentiation and related techniques.
  • Provide ongoing support for monitoring, maintenance, ordering, and purchasing of equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Provide guidance and training to less-experienced team members and train others in relevant techniques.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
