About The Position

Welcome to Olsson's Energy Environmental team, where innovation meets sustainability. Our diverse team of scientists and biologists support the continued growth of our Energy Market, supporting our clients in expanding our energy infrastructure to meet to growing need of our country. As an Associate Scientist, you will support renewable energy and transmission projects by completing pre- and post-construction surveys of environmental resources, monitoring environmental resources during construction, and preparing technical reports documenting our findings. You will develop skills in bird identification, wetland delineation, stormwater compliance, and vegetation management while fulfilling your dream of working to support the natural environment. Two days will never be the same with the dynamic nature of this work.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute and work well with a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Resources, or a related field.
  • Willingness to travel and work outside.
  • 2+ years of experience in environmental consulting or related scientific fieldwork, with knowledge of bird identification, stormwater compliance, and wetland delineation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre- and post-construction environmental surveys, including migratory bird and avian use surveys, wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and vegetation monitoring.
  • Monitor environmental resources during construction projects, including completing bird surveys, stormwater inspections, and documenting construction activities.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports and documentation documenting our findings.
  • Support small-scale project management, including monitoring timelines, budgets, and scope, under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Communicate complex environmental findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Participate in overnight and out-of-state travel for fieldwork, with a willingness to work a non-traditional schedule as needed. Travel and outdoor fieldwork will be a primary job duty during field season.
