About The Position

The Associate Scientific Editor role is part of the Author Heroes team at STM Journals. This team collaborates with researchers to facilitate the publication of their scientific discoveries, focusing on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. The role involves using scientific expertise and problem-solving skills to enhance the author experience and assist authors in finding suitable publication venues. The position supports a portfolio of over 2700 scientific journals and contributes to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and promoting equitable participation in publishing.

Requirements

  • PhD in Life or Food Science
  • Doctoral or post-doctoral experience in Life or Food Science, with a focus on chemistry or health (cancer)
  • Professional level of written and spoken English
  • An experimental, results-driven, and enthusiastic work attitude
  • A record of having published papers in scientific journals
  • Technology-savvy, familiar with online platforms, social media, and digital content
  • Good communication skills and excellent written and spoken English
  • Ability to build relationships and act as a self-starter
  • Ability to connect with the scientific community and across Elsevier at different levels within a large international environment
  • Broad scientific interest and a desire to serve and help customers in the scientific and clinical community, including authors, editors, and reviewers

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating content as a partner to external editors
  • Improving the editorial process for editors and reviewers iteratively
  • Engaging closely with authors to help them improve their manuscripts
  • Managing the editorial process for papers, from submission through peer review to the final decision
  • Helping authors increase their odds of success in being published in another journal if rejected from their first choice
  • Recruit and manage external editors, holding them to the same standard
