About The Position

The Manhattan HIV Brain Bank is seeking an Associate Researcher I to serve as a tissue bank laboratory research coordinator. This role involves processing clinical fluid samples from HIV and HCV infected patients, assisting with rapid autopsies at Mount Sinai Hospital, and participating in after-hours on-call duties for dissections. The position also includes photographing tissue specimens, dissecting and cryopreserving fluid and tissue samples, and maintaining a computer catalog of collected biospecimens and inventories. Responsibilities extend to packaging and shipping samples, assisting with the preparation of histologic slides and performing histochemical and immunohistochemical procedures. The Associate Researcher will also participate in ongoing research projects using morphometric analysis and other tissue-based techniques, as well as general laboratory maintenance and supply ordering.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in science or related field required
  • No experience required.
  • Prior experience at a laboratory bench with basic techniques (pipetting, centrifugation, making solutions), and entry-level computer skills.
  • Some knowledge of histology helpful, but not necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of research experience preferred.
  • Molecular skills a plus.

Responsibilities
