About The Position

SEL invents, designs, and builds digital products and systems that protect power grids around the world. This technology prevents blackouts and enables customers to improve power system reliability and safety at a reduced cost. The Associate Research Engineer will assist in designing, prototyping, and documenting technologies for application in SEL products or solutions. This role involves assisting engineers in research and writing new ideas and functional specifications, analyzing competitor products, and participating in the development of application notes, white papers, technical reports, and conference and journal papers on innovative applications or ideas. The position also requires protecting SEL intellectual property by writing patent and copyright applications. The role also involves following and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge in one of the following areas: Power systems: Knowledge of power system analysis, power system protection, and power system stability; Experience with EMTP, load flow, and short circuit studies; Experience with digital signal processing
  • Knowledge in one of the following areas: Computer engineering: Experience with object oriented programming, C, C++, C#, etc.; Experience with embedded software design; Simulation programming; Digital design with microprocessors; Digital communications and signal processing
  • Demonstrated excellent writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED
  • Willing to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in designing, prototyping, and documenting technologies for application in SEL products or solutions.
