About The Position

CIBC Real Estate Finance Division focuses exclusively on providing financing to real estate companies on both an interim/construction and term basis across Canada. Our team is comprised of experienced real estate professionals with offices located in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton Toronto, Ottawa, London, Hamilton and Montreal. This Associate role will be based in Calgary and this team will apply industry expertise to offer full-service financial solutions to real estate companies and users across Western Canada. In this role, you'll work closely with Relationship Managers within CIBC’s Real Estate Finance Division, and gain experience in both real estate interim and term lending and the management of key client relationships. As the Associate, you'll provide a broad range of analytical and research support to a team who is dedicated to helping you achieve your professional goals. You'll be involved with a variety of projects to expose them to various aspects of loan underwriting, credit analysis, and portfolio management. Requirements

  • Degree/diploma in Business Administration, Finance or Property Management.
  • Experience in financial statements and accounting principles in order to assess lending risk, with specific emphasis on the real estate industry.
  • Team player with the ability to work well within a group setting.
  • Strong client and relationship management skills.
  • Goal oriented and motivated by accomplishing goals and delivering best to make an impact.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for business development (sales) skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed CPA or CFA designation, or in-progress of completing one.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting in-depth company, industry, and portfolio analysis.
  • Assisting in performing risk assessments for existing and new credit arrangements through completing financial statement analysis, sensitivity and scenario analysis, valuation of different asset classes (ex. office, retail, residential, industrial, etc.) and reviewing third party reports (ex. environmental reports, appraisals, etc.).
  • Making informal and formal presentations to senior management to discuss deal structuring as a part of the deal team.
  • Collaborating with internal risk partners to analyze key risks and mitigation strategies in existing and new credits.
  • Fulfilling day-to-day requests of a portfolio of clients alongside the Relationship Manager.
  • Proactively assessing clients’ needs, proposing solutions, and executing as instructed by the client.
  • Playing a key role in the preparation of client proposals and information memoranda.
  • Attending client events, meetings, and site visits to further develop key client relationships.
  • Playing an integral role in the end-to-end processing of a loan (i.e. from structuring to funding).
  • Collaborating with various teams and departments to fulfill day-to-day tasks such as loan processing, opening of deposit accounts including signing authorities, non/negotiable securities, and the review of cash management arrangements.
