About The Position

The Associate Provost for Academic Programs is responsible for the oversight and coordination of all undergraduate and graduate degree-granting programs under the Office for Academic Affairs (OAA). This position provides leadership in academic program development and review, policy implementation, student success initiatives, and institutional effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Tenured Full Professor at The University of Alabama
  • Broad familiarity with the academic programs and governance structures across all colleges and schools
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administrators, students, and external stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Experience applying qualitative and quantitative methods in policy development and program assessment
  • Demonstrated service on university-level standing committees
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive issues involving students and faculty

Nice To Haves

  • Successful academic leadership at the department chair, associate dean, or equivalent administrative level
  • Experience in strategic planning and academic resource allocation
  • Knowledge of facilities expansion planning and space utilization
  • Familiarity with accreditation, program review, and institutional effectiveness practices

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of academic programs and strategic initiatives
  • Coordinate program approvals, revisions, and discontinuations (majors, minors, tracks, certificates)
  • Analyze faculty productivity data across teaching, research, and service domains
  • Monitor academic policies and procedures to ensure consistency and effectiveness
  • Coordinate academic complaints submitted by students and parents
  • Lead the Academic Program Review (APR) process across academic units
  • Coordinate OAA-affiliated programs and initiatives across campus
  • Represent the Office for Academic Affairs on university-wide task forces and external academic organizations
  • Chair the Academic Program Review Council
  • Chair the Council of Assistant and Associate Deans (CAAD)
  • Chair the Residency Classification Appeal Committee
  • Supervise the following offices and programs: Office of the University Registrar, Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Office of Disability Service
  • Curriculum and Policy Review
  • Approve academic petitions and new course proposals
  • Oversee the revision and implementation of policies
