Requirements

• Project management and direct field experience in construction, utility, transportation, or telecom industries is preferred.
• Degree in Engineering or a diploma in Building Technology, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Understanding of architectural design, engineering practices, construction documentation, and applicable municipal regulations.
• Ability to communicate technical material effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing.
• Willingness to travel based on project assignments and business needs.
• Experience with MS Project, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Writer, Visio, and a basic Windows environment.
• Valid driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia with a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Profitable execution of assigned Fire Installation projects, with a focus on transportation, commercial, and public sector portfolios.
• Bridging the gap between engineering consultants, technical design, and field installation by utilizing hands-on problem-solving and strong communication skills.
• Supporting sales activities early in the project development process, including providing input on strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, and risk assessment.
• Providing direction to project execution teams (Engineers, Designers, Technicians, Project Coordinators, Estimators, and subcontractors) to ensure projects are completed accurately, on time, billed appropriately, within budget, and within the scope of the contract.
• Maintaining positive cash flow and actively pursuing change orders.
• Following consistent, repeatable project management procedures and processes while maintaining an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results.
• Ensuring that Johnson Controls resources, as well as subcontractor/vendor resources, adhere to site and JCI safety policies, whichever is more stringent.
• Managing project scope, costs, resources, and risks to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Acting as the primary on-site leader for execution teams on assigned projects.
• Developing the Project Execution Plan, including the Work Breakdown Structure, Organizational Chart, Safety Plan, Project Schedules, Issue/Risk Logs, and Staffing Requirements.
• Evaluating the contractual scope of work and assessing the impact of client-issued instructions/notices, field directives, and/or schedule changes.
• Actively pursuing change orders and additional opportunities.
• Performing cost estimates, preparing proposals, and negotiating final settlement pricing and customer acceptance.
• Managing project-related accounts payable, billing, and collections.
• Completing project billing with the assistance of the Project Coordinator in a timely and accurate manner to maintain positive cash flow.
• Reviewing and interpreting contract terms and conditions to ensure work is completed to customer satisfaction and JCI standards.
• Analyzing financial reports and project schedules to proactively address potential issues.
• Communicating project progress, issues, and financial status effectively to management as required.
• Managing risks and establishing project recovery plans when necessary.
• Resolving disputes with minimal escalation.
• Preparing RFPs, negotiating, and issuing subcontracts.
• Ensuring project document controls comply with contract requirements and JCI standards.
• Overseeing project construction for compliance with specifications, local codes, and installation techniques.
• Managing the selection, ordering, and delivery schedule of project materials.
• Developing and maintaining strong, long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, and subcontractors.
• Attending job progress meetings as required and ensuring subcontractors understand project expectations.
• Coordinating with the Installation/Operations Manager and/or Senior Project Manager to allocate resources needed to meet project objectives.
• Ensuring engineering and commissioning performed by the field team aligns with established standards and escalating product-related issues as needed.
• Assisting the Installation/Operations Manager and/or Sales team in project development efforts.
• Providing feedback on the performance of Engineers and Designers to Engineering and Design Team Leaders, as well as Operations Management.
• Performing installation-to-service turnover at the end of each project.
