About The Position

The Associate Project Engineer supports engineering activities across projects of varying sizes and complexities under the supervision of senior engineers. The role completes assigned work cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards. It also collects data and supports the production of engineering designs. The position contributes to ABB’s Electrification Distribution Solutions Division in the US and is performed on-site.

The engineer performs survey work, standard computations, analysis, and basic design tasks; prepares project documentation within the scope of deliverables; assists customers with technical issues; and supports communication with project stakeholders. The role also participates in engineering workshops, supports technical risk assessments, and coordinates with project, manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and service teams to help ensure successful execution. Assigned work must be completed accurately and on time in alignment with project schedules and cost objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field for four-year engineering degree holders.
• 0 to 2 years of experience in related positions.
• Knowledge or experience with low-complexity orders and electrical designs, and knowledge of electrical design principles and engineering fundamentals.
• Previous experience or knowledge with a recent version of AutoCAD or an equivalent computer-aided design platform.
• Previous experience with 3D design, including Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent design platforms.
• Familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, and other applicable software.
• Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, creativity, complex problem-solving skills, independent thinking and decision-making abilities, and attention to detail and accuracy.
• Authorization to legally work in the US.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge or experience working in a manufacturing environment, specifically with steel or copper fabrication.
• Knowledge or experience with electrical distribution equipment.
• Computer-aided design certification or degree.
• Internship or co-op experience in mechanical design or manufacturing.
• Knowledge of ANSI Air Insulated Switchgear.
• Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, and IEEE standards.
• Knowledge of SAP or Windchill.
• Knowledge of Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Perform survey work, standard computations, analysis, and basic design tasks.
• Collect project data and support the development of engineering designs.
• Exercise judgment on limited work details and the application of standard methods; prepare project documentation within the scope of deliverables.
• Assist customers with technical issues and interact with official contacts, contractors, and other staff within the scope of deliverables.
• Support communication related to project assignments and customer meetings.
• Participate in workshops related to engineering design, tools, and processes.
• Support technical risk assessments and implement resulting project actions.
• Coordinate with project, manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and service teams to support successful project execution and maintain engineering deliverables.
• Ensure assigned work is completed with quality and on time, in alignment with project schedules and cost objectives.
