About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking an Associate Program Leader (APL) for Weapons Nonproliferation (WN) within the Nonproliferation Research and Development (NPRD) Program. This role supports the NPRD mission to conduct innovative research for detecting foreign nuclear weapons development and testing, verifying arms control agreements, countering proliferation and terrorism, and responding to nuclear incidents. The WN program area comprises a multi-disciplinary team leveraging expertise in nuclear weapons design, production, and testing to enhance detection, location, and characterization of foreign nuclear weapons production activities. It also involves developing U.S. capabilities for monitoring foreign nuclear weapons stockpiles and related activities to support warfighting, intelligence, and nonproliferation missions. The APL for WN will be responsible for staffing, mentoring, ensuring quality, and delivering technical products across the WN portfolio. This position involves close collaboration with technical leads, setting program strategy, prioritizing resources, and reporting progress. The APL will also work with relevant APLs in the Space Science and Security Program to integrate technologies into space monitoring systems and contribute to a culture of collaboration and innovation within the NPRD leadership team. This position is within the Global Security Principal Directorate’s Nuclear Threat Reduction (N) Program and will programmatically report to the Program Leader (PL) for NP. Funding will primarily come from direct programmatic work, with some sponsor engagement funding available from Global Security. The position can be filled at either the SEL.4 or SEL.5 level, with additional responsibilities assigned at the higher level.
