About The Position

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine is seeking applications for the Temerty Health Nexus Chair in Innovation and Technology. This Chair is a fixed five-year term position, intended to support the development, translation, and implementation of transformative health technologies. The Chairholder will accelerate health innovation within the Faculty's ecosystem by contributing to strategic initiatives, mentoring innovators, and facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration across clinical, research, and industry domains. The goal is to improve patient outcomes, enhance health system efficiency, and address health inequities through scalable and impactful solutions. The Chairholder will also serve as a Senior Coordinating Mentor within H2i, dedicating a minimum of 20% of their time to mentoring ventures, supporting H2i programming, and advising on strategic planning.

Requirements

  • Currently hold, or have received an offer of, an academic appointment at the University of Toronto, at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • Hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in an allied health discipline.
  • Demonstrate a strong and sustained record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrate success in securing external funding for collaborative or interdisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentorship.
  • Commitment to protected time for the required 20% (0.2FTE) commitment to H2i.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to initiatives that support the commercialization and translation of health innovations emerging from the Temerty Medicine, including digital health, diagnostics, medical imaging, AI/ML, medical devices, novel drug and biological therapies, rapid manufacturing platforms, and personalized interventions.
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor to health innovators within the Faculty.
  • Actively participate in the Health Innovation Hub (H2i) and support other entrepreneurship initiatives led by Temerty Medicine’s Commercialization and Partnerships unit.
  • Contribute to building a robust innovation culture and ecosystem.
  • Engage with clinical, academic, and industry partners to promote collaboration.
  • Mentor and provide strategic guidance to ventures supported by H2i.
  • Support the design and delivery of H2i programming and initiatives.
  • Serve as a strategic leadership advisor to the Director of Commercialization and Partnerships, supporting H2i planning and priority-setting.

Benefits

  • Annual allocation of $170,000 per annum, consisting of $150,000 to support the Chairholder’s salary and $20,000 to support activities directly related to the Chair’s mandate in health innovation and technology.
