About The Position

The Genetics and Genomics Diagnostic Laboratory in the Division of Human Genetics, Department of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine (UCCOM) is recruiting for an Associate Professor/Professor and Clinical Laboratory Director position. Board certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, or equivalent, and a prior academic appointment at the Associate or full Professor level are required. It is also desirable that applicants have: A vision for the future for providing a comprehensive multiomic testing service for our patients that includes molecular genetics, cytogenetic testing and innovative technologies. Experience with rapid genome sequencing and/or long-read genome sequencing technologies. Experience with leadership and managing a genetic testing laboratory that offers in-house and reference laboratory testing, including the regulatory aspects of clinical genetic testing. Experience working in the clinical laboratory industry. The Genetics Laboratories in the Division of Human Genetics (DHG) are well-equipped, expanding CLIA and CAP certified clinical laboratories. The laboratories perform testing for inherited diseases and somatic alterations including well-established collaborative diagnostic programs for more than two hundred different disorders and conditions. DHG has an ABMGG accredited training program for Medical Genetics and Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (as of July 2017). DHG also has a master’s training program for genetic counselors administered jointly with The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine, Ph.D, OR equivalent
  • Board Certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or equivalent
  • Associate Professor or Professor appointment or eligibility
  • Completion of all required pre-employment activities

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, effective and compassionate patient care commensurate with the level of advancement and clinical specialty.

  • Contributions may include recognition as an excellent teacher, role model and mentor; assume a role in a major teaching or clinical training program; invited to participate in local and regional educational opportunities; participate in the development or direction of educational program, curricular offerings and teaching materials; participates in curriculum committee or other education related committees.
  • May serve as consult to other faculty and community physicians.
  • May prepare, organize and provide lectures for residents.
  • Participate in all divisional/departmental educational activities.
  • Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars.
  • Participates in service and/or administration as evidenced by one of the following: contribute to the development of programs for patient care of educational purposes; or provide consultation on a specific program development; or participate in performance improvement programs; or participate on divisional or departmental committees.
  • Actively participates in all Division activities.
  • Maintain currency in all departmental policies, procedures and standards.
  • Promote interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships and encourage team concepts.
  • Promote the implementation of long and short term goals and objectives and ensures that they are appropriate to the Division.
  • Complete evaluations for students, residents and peers.
  • Participates in scholarly activities as evidenced by: publication of clinical investigations, clinical observations, reviews, chapters or books; participation in clinical trials, and/or clinical investigations; reviews manuscripts.
  • Design and conduct clinical research on various areas of clinical specialty.
  • Publish and/or co-author findings and conclusions resulting from research in a timely fashion.
  • Presents findings internally.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of programs which evaluates the efficacy of testing.
  • Recommend approaches for improvement activities, recommend and perform new processes, collect and measure data, develop processes based on performance and communicate results.
  • Assist in obtaining funding from outside sources for research and teaching programs as appropriate.
