About The Position

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at LSU New Orleans invites applications for a tenured Associate Professor position in Power and Energy Systems, beginning Fall 2027. New Orleans is a distinctive city known for its rich cultural heritage, music, cuisine, and historic architecture. It serves as a regional hub for tourism, healthcare, education, and the energy sector, with expanding industries creating opportunities for university-industry collaboration. LSU New Orleans is highly ranked nationally and globally, with its College of Engineering and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering also holding strong regional and national standing. The university is home to the Power and Energy Research Laboratory (PERL), a regional hub for advanced power and energy research with strong ties to local industry, utilities, and regional partners, offering opportunities for collaboration, applied research, and technology transfer. PERL's recent research areas include integration of renewable energy, inverter-based resources protection, stability/resiliency/reliability/security studies for modern power systems, and hardware-in-the-loop real-time modeling and simulation.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering
  • Expertise in power electronics, renewable energy systems, application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in power systems, or a closely related area
  • Prior appointment at the rank of Associate Professor (or equivalent) at an accredited academic institution
  • Evidence of a strong research record, including peer-reviewed publications
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high-impact, externally funded research program in power and energy systems
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering, particularly in power and energy
  • Supervise graduate students and mentor undergraduate researchers
  • Engage in collaborative research with PERL and regional industry partners
  • Contribute to curriculum development, accreditation activities, and departmental service
