About The Position

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in IMMUNOLOGY. An appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor commensurate with experience. The successful applicant will receive a competitive salary and benefits package, tenure-line salary support and startup funds. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is a welcoming and collaborative community of 21 primary faculty members, four of whom are full-time teachers. The remaining 18 lead research programs on topics such as bacterial and viral pathogenesis, immunization and host defense, mucosal-epithelial immunology (inflammation, interactions with microbiota, tumorigenesis), neuropathogenesis (viral and sterile inflammation, resolution of inflammation), and tumor immunobiology. Entering PhD students are supported for two years by the university’s Graduate School and Independent Program in Biomedical Sciences. Thirty students are currently enrolled in the department’s graduate curriculum. The successful applicant will receive dedicated laboratory space in the Clinical and Translational Research Building, located on the University of Louisville’s downtown campus (the Health Sciences Center). Research support is extensive, including core facilities for confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, genomics, metagenomics, live cell imaging, animal housing with germ-free facilities, whole animal imaging, and one of the country’s 11 regional biocontainment laboratories (equipped with BSL-3 and ABSL-3 facilities). The University of Louisville is a premier metropolitan university in the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s public education system; it is classified by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as R1 (Very High Research Spending and Doctorate Production).

Requirements

  • PhD or MD in a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Record of research productivity and excellence.
  • Demonstrates potential to lead an independent immunology research program.

  • Expertise in adaptive immunology.
  • Overlapping expertise in autoimmunity, bacterial or viral host defense, cancer immunobiology, immunogenetics or neuroimmunology.
  • Potential for, or demonstrated excellence in, graduate and post-graduate education.
