About The Position

The University of Chicago invites applications for tenured faculty positions at the rank of Associate Professor in Data Science. Appointments may be made in the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Statistics, jointly between Statistics and Computer Science, or jointly with another University department. The University is implementing an ambitious plan for research and education in Data Science and AI, including new undergraduate and graduate academic programs and cross-disciplinary research programs. The Data Science Institute is a collaboration among Computer Science, Statistics, and other campus units, and focuses on fundamental advances at the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence, statistics, and computing in real-world and domain-specific contexts. The Committee on Data Science is the home of data science education programs. The broader data science community includes the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics, the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago, the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Fermilab, and Argonne National Laboratory. Faculty members are expected to lead research programs that produce significant contributions to a field and to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Requirements

PhD in Data Science, AI, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
Evidence of leadership in the candidate’s field.
Successful independent research.
Demonstrated track record of mentoring PhD students and/or postdoctoral researchers.
