About The Position

Charlie's Produce is a privately owned wholesale produce company and the largest privately owned produce wholesaler on the West Coast. We are looking for like-minded individuals to help further our goal to enhance our communities through quality produce. The Associate Produce Buyer is responsible for turns purchasing of assigned items using existing procedures and tools, ensuring purchase order accuracy, and managing inventory of assigned items. The role aims to achieve or exceed budgeted service level and spoilage, identify and report inventory discrepancies, and approve received purchase orders for vendor payment. This position coordinates activities with other buyers under the direction of the regional procurement manager and/or procurement supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School graduate.
  • Computer competency, including Excel, Word, & Outlook as well as 10 Key.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and work well under pressure.
  • Able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and able to accomplish team objectives.
  • Strong basic math & writing skills required to quickly multiply & add cases/pallets & calculate product costs.

Nice To Haves

  • Purchasing experience desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of Power Enterprise a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use best practice for order writing and inventory management.
  • Follow best practice for purchase order management.
  • Follow established buying cycles for assigned items.
  • Effectively manage product costing following best practice.
  • Follow established inbound and intra-company logistics procedures.
  • Communicate potential inventory issues, prorates, and cost changes in a timely manner.
  • Work with vendors to resolve product damage and quality issues and/or quantity discrepancies.
  • Manage related claims.
  • Learn and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) for fill rate, variance management, proper inbound freight maintenance, PO accuracy, contract compliance, and other assigned KPIs.
  • Consistently demonstrate ownership of and responsibility for items managed and one’s results.
  • Provides administrative support to the procurement department as needed.
  • All employees are responsible for food safety and are expected to notify the appropriate manager, supervisor, or key personnel if they witness any compromise to food safety or food quality.
