Under general direction, to perform a wide variety of professional level work in the field of current and advance planning; redevelopment, zoning, architectural, and environmental matters; to provide information and assistance to developers and the public on planning related matters; and to provide highly technical and responsible support to the department director. This is the journey-level of the professional Planner series; Positions at this level are distinguished from the Assistant Planner level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including responsibility for the application of professional knowledge and skills to various municipal planning problems and projects. Duties, responsibilities, and assignments are more complex and require greater independence in decision making and the original creativity and responsibility for organization and execution of long-term projects. Incumbents are expected to provide leadership and guidance on projects carried out by other staff. Responsibilities include the preparation of specific reports and plans with opportunity for working independently and exercising judgment and initiative.
